My Imperfect Nature Journaling course has ideas and inspiration to nature journal in your own way so that you can start to see the world differently, learn new skills, and have fun...
Connect with nature to relax and re-energize!
Are you a nature lover, struggling with everyday stresses
and looking for a way to relax and re-energize through connecting with nature
in an easy, fun way – without having to make time-consuming trips into the
wilds?
Even though I live in the countryside, I still struggled to feel connected with the natural world all around me, while knowing that if I could capture that elusive feeling of connection to nature, I would feel happier, more relaxed and energized...
Introducing my Imperfect Nature Journaling course – get started with nature journaling so that you too can learn to feel connected with nature – without feeling intimidated by lack of artistic skill or experience.
Imperfect Nature Journaling is designed for nature lovers who want to discover that feeling of being more connected with nature so that they can take a break to forget about the stresses of everyday life.
This course will take you from absolute beginner to confident nature journaling in your own way:
Here at Imperfect Nature Journaling, we concentrate on our personal connection to nature for our nature journaling, as a way to keep us feeling happy, relaxed and energized, and to recover from everyday stresses.
We concentrate on the process of nature journaling and how we can benefit in our minds, bodies, and souls.
It’s not about perfect pages or pretty pictures as I’ve always found that intimidating and not much fun...
That’s why we’re called ‘Imperfect Nature Journaling’ - because it might not be perfect but we're happy doing our own thing.
We explore different ways of nature journaling in the course, so that you can find the right ways and ideas for you.
We include drawing lessons, (which I encourage you to try as drawing is a fantastic way of getting us engaged with nature in our body and mind)...
But if you like, you can nature journal in other ways instead, which we’ll also explore so that you can feel confident in whichever nature journaling techniques you feel are right for you.
It’s not about nature journaling just like me, but about helping you find your own best ways of nature journaling.
Each lesson is around 30-40 minutes long (some are longer or shorter) so that you can fit your nature journaling around your everyday life.
I encourage you to set your own schedule and timings, whether you want to journal daily, weekly, or monthly, or an ad-hoc basis – and to spend however long you’re comfortable with on each lesson, whether that’s more or less time than my recommendation.
No special access to nature is needed. You can nature journal from your garden, your local park, or even from home for many of the exercises.
We focus on everyday nature so that we can get the benefits of connecting with nature as often and as easily as we can.
You don’t need much equipment to get started – a book to
journal in, a pen or pencil, and optional media for adding colour (a small set
of coloured pencils is recommended). You can read a full list of recommendations and required items in the introduction to the course (available as a free sample - you will need to register to access the free lessons). We will find easy nature items as needed for the lessons - these are things like feathers, leaves, and access to plants (such as in your home, park, or garden).
I’ve been a nature artist for a decade and previously run a series of drawing and art courses. I’m now part of the nature journaling educator program with naturalist and artist John Muir Laws and the Wild Wonder Foundation to be able to bring you all the best ideas, skills and techniques so that you can learn to nature journal in the way that makes you happiest.
The course has 20 lessons and is broken up into 4 modules with 5 lessons each. Each lesson is an exercise that will develop your skills for nature journaling. Each module is nominally based on a week – so you could do one lesson each day Monday to Friday if you wanted. There’s absolutely no compunction to work at this pace, though…
It’s important that you do things at your own pace, whether that’s one lesson per day, one each week, or one a month, it doesn’t matter.
The lessons are mainly text based, with images and the occasional video to inspire and explain.
The course is online and entirely self-paced with no time limit. You’ll be able to access the course for as long as you need and the full course is downloadable as a PDF (80+ pages) so that you will be able to have lifetime access as well as access the lessons offline or to print out an exercise to take out and about with you as you nature journal.
